Brain Stars

Author and illustrator, Tad Wanveer, LMBT, CST-D  uses an abundance of images along with words to convey the essential interworking of neurons, glia, vasculature, and the craniosacral system (CSS). Glial cell function was once thought to primarily provide the central nervous system (CNS) with structural support. However, new research shows that glial cells are essential partners of neurons in nearly every aspect of CNS development, function, homeostasis, and healing.

Glial cells form an interconnected structural and functional matrix throughout the entire CNS. This glial matrix is fused to the CSS. Tad calls this fusion the “Pia-glial interface” (PGI). He provides a model in which the PGI functions as a biomechanical link between the CSS and the depths of the CNS.

An essential part of craniosacral therapy (CST) is to optimize the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) into and out of the CNS. Glia produce CSF, form passageways for the flow of CSF, and regulate the flow of CSF. Glia also have many other critical functions within the CNS, some of which are: modulating neural signaling, helping control CNS blood flow, forming a CNS-wide communication network, and producing nerve fiber insulation (myelin). Glia are also part of the peripheral nervous system (PNS). CNS and PNS glia are discussed in this book.

Knowledge of glia helps to expand a CST practitioner's view of the CSS and how the nervous system works and heals, which can reveal new possibilities for helping others overcome dysfunction.

A 'must read' for all Therapists!

REVIEW:

“WOW! Tad has discovered and expertly unveiled a whole new body of work, which he so magnificently describes and illustrates in his book. He is not only a master clinician and teacher, but now, wordsmith and illustrator. His illustrations and symbols create an understanding and insight that words alone cannot. He has the ability to take very complicated information and transform it into simple concepts through his words and pictures. I have personally found his glial work to be indispensable in my clinical practice, adding a specification and depth that truly is transformative. Tad has found a way to gently touch these brain stars, unleashing their wisdom and impressive ability to restore balance. Dr. Upledger would be amazed to see his original craniosacral work is not only being continued, but expanded into new frontiers.”
