Life in the Bones; A Biography of Dr. Fritz Smith and Zero Balancing

By David Lauterstein, Cert. ZB, LMT

This is a biography of a life, a practice, and an idea.

Dr. Fritz Smith’s life integrates an incredible number of influences from the history of bodymind therapy. In 1921 His father, Dr. Ernest Smith, initiated the first four-year Chiropractic training in the U.S. In 1955 Fritz Smith himself became a Doctor of Osteopathy and then earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree. He subsequently became one of the first Medical Doctors to be certified as a Rolfer. He received his Master’s in Acupuncture in the United Kingdom after studying for years with J.R. Worsley in England.

In the early 1970’s when Fritz Smith founded Zero Balancing (ZB), a powerful touch therapy to promote wellness and optimal bodymind balance, he did not have a five- or ten-year plan. The development of Zero Balancing was very Taoist, guided by day-to-day experiences of Dr. Smith and others. ZB came about through the coalescence of his experiences from Eastern and Western training, as Dr. Smith tried to understand and articulate the reasons and methodology for the remarkable therapeutic results he saw in his clients.

In this book, you’ll be taken on a journey through Smith’s life and work. Not only will you learn about the heart and passion of one of our greatest healers, but also see how Zero Balancing forced Dr. Smith to change his worldview and to see the relationship of all things rather than their individual character. Dr. Smith is the author of The Alchemy of Touch and Inner Bridges: a Guide to Energy Movement and Body Structure. He has been able to work alongside others who have supported him so completely and helped create the world-wide Zero Balancing Community with its focus and frame to make the world a better, healthier, and more actualized place.

This biography is published with the support of the Zero Balancing Touch Foundation.

A beautifully presented hard-bound book, Life in the Bones makes a thoughtful gift for family and friends and an excellent resource for clients.
