Jean-Pierre Barral 8 DVD Set - New Manual Articular Approach consists of: Upper Extremity Series, Lower Extremity Series & Spine Series

New Manual Articular Approach (MAA) is a manual therapy modality that applies a comprehensive approach to the treatment of joints. It integrates all aspects of the joint including the nerve, artery, bone, capsule, and ligaments, as well as visceral and emotional connections. MAA delves into the joints like never before. It examines the nerves of each joint, along with the arteries, meniscus, ligaments, capsule attachments and folds. It incorporates soft tissue mobilization of the associated bones, while looking at direct and indirect relationships between the bones of the body. The relationship between the viscera and the joints is not widely understood. MAA shows how interconnected they are and that without addressing this visceral connection many joint issues may not fully resolve. The application of the gentle MAA techniques improves the body’s ability to heal and restore itself to optimal health.

Series 1 - Upper Extremities Series

The Shoulder

This 90 minute DVD about the treatment of the shoulder introduces a new modality of working with joints developed by Jean-Pierre Barral, DO in cooperation with Alain Croibier, DO. More than 40 years of clinical practice have led to this innovative approach, which includes all the different components of a joint: muscles, ligaments, capsule & labrum, synovial fluid inside the capsule, arteries & veins, nerves.

The Elbow, Wrist and Hand

This DVD about the dysfunctional tension around the joints is also about the pressure inside the joint capsule. Barral is aiming for a process of restoring the negative pressure inside the capsule, to distribute the synovial fluid evenly and thereby “save” the cartilage. This is based on the observation that the pressure difference between the inside of the joint capsule and its surrounding tissues is maintained or – in case of dysfunction – disturbed by strain, present in all sorts of tissues. Strain can be found not only within muscles and their fascia, but strain is also present in membranes, ligaments, the capsule itself, and even in certain layers of fat tissues. In this DVD Barral shows, how to make the choice for efficient treatment for elbow and wrist problems, by distinguishing between the large variety of anatomical units and tissues involved. (60 minutes)

Series 2 - Lower Extremities Series

The Hip

This DVD focuses on the new approach to the treatment of the hip joint that Jean-Pierre Barral has  developed in cooperation with Alain Croibier, DO. The DVD covers this subject thoroughly and from all perspectives. Its four chapters give a detailed presentation with great attention for practicability.

Every technique is introduced with the help of anatomical drawings that Barral himself created especially for this purpose. They allow us to gain an exceptional insight into the anatomical relationships that are of importance during the distinct steps of each treatment.

The Knee: A "Neurological Joint"

In this DVD Jean-Pierre Barral demonstrates his new techniques for the treatment of the knee. The underlying concept has been developed over many years in collaboration with Alain Croibier. Its practical application to the knee is exemplary.

Barral calls the knee a "neurological joint." He alludes here to the complex relationships that exist between the knee and the nervous system. The example of the knee demonstrates very clearly how the different building blocks of the organism are neurologically wired to the "executive floor“ - the brain.

The application field reaches from prevention of sports injuries to the treatment of chronic and acute dysfunctions. Barral succeeds in giving a practical, anatomy-based introduction into the various facets of this particularly problematic joint.

The Lower Leg and Foot

The lower leg and foot require a very special level of precision from the therapist. In an evolutionary process over millions of years, numerous muscular elements of the foot have changed into ligaments. Through a tensegrity structure these ligaments are closely connected to the membranes and fasciae of the lower leg. Barral’s new techniques for the treatment of the lower leg and foot take into account this "architectural fine structure.” Therefore, the techniques demonstrated in this DVD are of microscopic precision.

Series 3 - Spine Series

The Cervical Spine

This DVD about the manual treatment of the cervical spine continues the project that Jean-Pierre Barral has started in teamwork with Alain Croibier. The intention of this New Manual Articular Approach is to add a new dimension and a series of new techniques to the many manual approaches that already exist.

The Thoracic Spine

This DVD about the manual treatment of the vertebral spine focuses on the dorsal spine. The techniques shown by Jean-Pierre Barral are based on the New Manual Articular Approach he developed in cooperation with Alain Croibier. From the surface of the organism, the skin, to its very deep intrinsic components, and the nerve plexuses, all the components of the human body as they relate to the thoracic spine are included in evaluation and treatment.

The Lumbar Spine and Pelvis

This DVD about the manual treatment of the vertebral spine focuses on the lumbar spine and the pelvis. The techniques shown by Jean-Pierre Barral are based on the New Manual Articular Approach he developed in cooperation with Alain Croibier. The underlying philosophy may be best characterized by Barral’s advice to respect the integrity of the individual organism, and to include all the components of the body into a detailed mode of evaluation and treatment.
