Neuromeningeal Explorations and Clinical Applications of NM2 and NM3

Jean-Pierre Barral, DO, MRO(F) developed the Neural Manipulation (NM) curriculum after his Visceral Manipulation (VM) curriculum to address residual issues from traumatic injury that he wasn't able to resolve with VM alone. He found that, when there is trauma to the body, both the neural and meningeal tissue of the nervous system are impacted. By gently and precisely working with the injured tissue of the Central Nervous System (CNS) and the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS), Barral was able to address the chronic, ongoing issues patients were experiencing due to the trauma.  

Through this Neuromeningeal Exploration Series the NM Teachers share their decades of experience and knowledge to assist you in delving deeper into your Neural Manipulation studies. Expanding upon the NM curriculum, this NME Series will have a profound affect on your ability to apply NM with your patients. 

~Neuromeningeal Explorations: Anatomy and Biomechanics of the CNS

When working with patients who have a fixated joint or a muscle spasm, we may look to the musculoskeletal system as the potential source. However, if we delve deeper, we often find that the nervous system is the true source of the symptoms. Using very gentle and highly specific manual therapy, you can address issues within the neuromeningeal system to enhance the effectiveness of your treatments. 

Explore the anatomy and biomechanics of the neuromeninges: the connective tissue that surrounds and supports the CNS. 

Discover how the CNS—specifically the cranial dura and spinal dura—is affected by trauma, particularly with collisional forces, such as whiplash.

Explore how the CNS and PNS neuromeninges behave functionally as one mechanical system.

~Neuromeningeal Explorations: Clinical Applications for NM2 and NM3

Discuss and demonstrate assessment of a patient utilizing NM2 and NM3 skills. 

Expand upon evaluative concepts in NM1 clinical applications (General Listening, Cranial Listening at the vertex, and Listening at the rectus capitis posterior minor and sacrum).

Evaluate the upper and lower extremities of two patients: an adult with orthopedic issues, and a baby with torticollis. 

Explore relevant mobility and range of motion tests.

Treatment will include NM2 and NM3 techniques depending on the needs of the patient.

Discuss clinical cases that include NM2 and NM3 techniques.

NOTE: The BI teachers have such a depth of knowledge, which they can't fit into the core curriculum classes. They developed this NME class to be able to delve deeper into the anatomy and physiology, as well as the integration of NM. The teachers hear from the students that you want more of how to integrate the work and how to maximize your skills, and those are key things the teachers kept in mind when developing this program.
