Just inside the bony cranium we all have billions of star-shaped cells in our brain. Brain stars are part of a family of cells called “glia.” Glial cells are major regulators of nervous system development, structure and function. They are involved in all aspects of nervous system health and pathology. Glia and neurons create our inner universe of sensation, perception, memory, and action. Reaching inward…we can gently touch them.
How do craniosacral therapy (CST) techniques reach into the brain or spinal cord?
Is there a biomechanical pathway through which CST corrective techniques are transmitted from a practitioner’s hands into the depths of the central nervous system (CNS)?
If so, what cells form this corrective pathway, what do they do, and how do they help CNS healing and function?
The answer to all of these questions may reside in glia.
The craniosacral system connects directly to the glial cell matrix of the brain and spinal cord. This connection is a powerful route by which you can use CranioSacral Therapy glial technique to improve nervous system structure, function, healing and health.
Glial information is very important to understanding the central nervous system and it's directly interconnected in how CST creates change
- Investigate glial cell types and function.
- Explore how glial cells build a therapeutic interface from outside the Central Nervous System (CNS) to inside the CNS.
- Discover the role of glial cells in generating cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and regulating CSF flow.
- Learn how glial cells help the CNS heal.
- Stimulate optimal nervous system health by using CST glial techniques.
- Work with nervous system disorders, such as: autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing issues, traumatic brain injury, neurodegenerative disorders, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, chronic pain, spinal cord trauma, anxiety, and neuropathy through the application of CST glial technique.
- Enhance, enrich and refine your CST palpation and treatment skills.
Testimonials from the inaugural 2013 seminar:
A breakthrough class for the CST curriculum! Tad has transformed the complexities of this work into the simplest techniques that produce profound changes! Jaw dropping animations!
-Cheryl Ann Lombardi
I LOVED this class! Tad's class is presented with thoroughness, intelligence, and as importantly, heart. This body of work is the next frontier!
--Shyamala Strack, OTR/L, CST-D
Tad has an ability to take complex structures and topics and bring them to an easy to understand way of working. Treatment becomes simple, beautiful and creative. Can’t wait for more from Tad!
--Susan Cotta, MSPT, CST
This material is not only accessible, but fun!
--Maria Scotchell, BA, LMT
Bring your curiosity and your hands to this seminar. You and your practice will never be the same. This is an exciting and beneficial journey for both clients and therapists.
--Mariann Sisco, PT, CSTD
I was intrigued when I read about the Touching the Brain class. I had heard of glial cells, but I wasn't sure whether I had the background or experience needed to understand and use this interface with CranioSacral Therapy. I'm so glad I took the class! Tad's explanations and illustrations were so clear, I was able to grasp the material and begin using the techniques as soon as I returned to my practice. My clients and I have been thrilled with the results.
--Mindy Totten, LMBT, CST-D
Testimonials from the October 2015 seminar:
True to the philosophy of his mentor, Dr. Upledger, Tad has a gift for teaching vastly complex molecular structures and processes and simplifying it enough to easily get it “into our hands.” His great humor, easygoing manner coupled with his artistic ability and talent for animation of his artwork, make it really easy for an average learner to understand. This new work has the potential to deepen and bring about a more profound level of healing for your clients, from newborns to adults.
--Holly Prouty, RN, IBCLC
Run, do not walk to this class. It helped to solidify, integrate and synthesize the material I’ve been learning in other classes. Tad is so organized, knowledgeable and supportive that it made learning fun and easy.
--Bobbi Wade, SLP, MAT-CCC
This work is Upledger 2.0 the next generation, and way better than “Star Trek: Next Generation.” This work honors all of Dr. Upledger’s work while expanding it to the next generation.
--Diane Molloy, Lac
I have done many different therapies and felt a piece was missing. I think this is it! Wow…what amazing work! It is by far the best class I have ever taken.
--Linda Carley, PT
CTTB1 is a natural, logical evolution of CranioSacral Therapy as Dr. Upledger presented it. Not since I took CS1 over 30 years ago have I found such potential and excitement within the work.Tad Wanveer worked alongside Dr. John for years, and I found myself in CTTB1 thinking that this CranioSacral approach embodies the ecologist's maxim, "Think globally, act locally" as we touch a small part with intention, effecting change upon the whole.
Two days before the class, I'd had an annual physical exam, and was measured and weighed. During one class practice session relating to embryonic development of the spinal cord, as we worked with what could be called "shadow imprints" of the transient radial glia, while my partner worked posterior, I met and matched her work anterior, since we are 3-dimensional beings. When I got off the table, my thorax was visibly different, more even and expanded. I felt taller. We literally re-formed a zone of my spinal cord in which there had been a compression since my in utero development, which Dr. Upledger had noted in my ADV1 in the 1990's.
Yesterday, I went back to my doctor's office to be re-measured, to verify the truth of what I was feeling. I had gained 3/8 of an inch in height, as my thorax had "un-crumpled" with the work! Dr. John taught us to keep our minds and our hearts open to all possibilities of healing. My own experience with CTTB1 reinforces his words. I am filled with gratitude for this work, its evolution, its potential to help us bring forward more of the good, the true, the beautiful within the human beings we touch.
--Linda K. Bradak LMT, CST-D
Yesterday I treated a 28 yr old, long term client (with significant developmental delays). He had never been able to write, copy, or trace with any writing tool (his entire life). Session was basically the 2nd full session of using the glial curriculum.....after which he ran to his mom in the waiting room excited to tell her about the movie he watched (during his session). He then initiated and carried out, finding paper and copying the title down so they could get it from the library. His mom's jaw was on the floor, exclaiming, "That is the most writing he has ever done in his entire life!!" He copied, ‘Beauty and the Beast’. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. THIS. WORK!!!!
-- Susan Vaughan Kratz, OTR, CST; August, 2016
It works! Used it on client, 67 years, had multiple strokes. Lost short term memory etc. After each session he regained more normal thought function and returned to work!!! I have only had one course and just followed basic protocol and it still worked.
