Presented by: Thomas Rasmussen, PhD, MSc, CST-D
This groundbreaking online video program explores the scientific and clinical dimensions of polyrhythms in relation to CranioSacral Therapy (CST). Presented by Dr. Thomas Rasmussen, an esteemed researcher and clinician, this two-part series delves into cutting-edge scientific research and their practical applications in CST.
Part 1: Polyrhythms – Scientific Research
The primary respiratory mechanism (PRM) is a fundamental concept in CST and, simultaneously, under criticism in a time of scientific and medical reductionism. In studying the PRM, four related rhythmic movements were identified using a scientific approach. The lecture will focus on the scientific description of polyrhythms, their relation to the PRM, and their relevance for CST.
Part 2: Polyrhythms – Clinical Treatment & Experiential
Movement/stillness in the body/mind/spirit and its balance with the environment from a microscopic to macroscopic scale is central for whole-person health. Here the focus is the perception of the PRM and polyrhythms as a perceptual communication/connection with the Inner Wisdom and the Significance Detector in Upledger's CST.
About Dr. Thomas Rasmussen
Dr. Rasmussen holds a Ph.D. in Medical Science, an MSc in Chemistry, and multiple degrees in Biochemistry and Biology. As a leading researcher with over 50 published studies and 100+ international conference abstracts, he has contributed extensively to cancer research, pharmacology, and craniosacral studies. He serves as Director of Research at Upledger Institute International, where he leads and collaborates on CST research initiatives, shaping the future of CST education and practice. Dr. Rasmussen is also an Instructor for Upledger Institute International.
His latest research on low-frequency rhythmic movements (<0.1 Hz) provides compelling scientific validation for CST palpation techniques, offering a new foundation for understanding the CranioSacral Rhythm along with blood and cerebrospinal fluid flow in human health.
This program was initially presented at Upledger Institute's Beyond the Dura Conference in 2023.
