Brought to you by The Barral Institute (BI) in collaboration with Gil Hedley, these companion courses include dissection videos that illuminate the structure and relationships of the Visceral System.
Visceral Manipulation 1 Companion Course
Estimated course time: 1 to 3 hours
This course includes an exploration and dissection of the visceral membranes (peritoneum) as well as structures such as the diaphragm, colon, greater and lesser omentum, appendix, small intestine, liver, gallbladder, stomach, duodenum, pancreas, and spleen. This course also explores abdominal space structures such as visceral adhesions, ligament of Treitz, the superior mesenteric artery, the portal vein, Glisson’s capsule, hepatic artery and vein, and the hepatoduodenal, gastrophrenic, phrenicocolic, and hepatogastric ligaments. See more learning objectives below.
Visceral Manipulation 2 Companion Course
Estimated course time: 5 hours
This course expands upon the content from Visceral Manipulation 1 companion course and includes videos of dissection that illuminate the structure and relationships of the diaphragm, kidneys, adrenal glands, spleen, pancreas, greater and lesser omentum, and the parietal peritoneum. Through these videos, participants will gain a better understanding of these structures in-situ and their relationships so their surrounding tissues. Other landmarks identified include the hepatorenal ligament, adrenal vein and artery, renal fat, hilum of kidney, omental bursa, ureters, portal vein, hepatic artery, common bile duct, and the fundus, cardiac, and pyloric portions of the stomach. Participants will also explore the membranes of the abdominal cavity in more detail, including distinguishing between the transversalis fascia, peritoneum, and fascia propria. See more learning objectives below.

A Must-Have Anatomy Resource for Barral Students!
Gil Hedley’s Visceral Manipulation Dissection Companion Dissection 1 & 2 online video programs are a valuable anatomy-focused resource for students of the Barral Institute. These videos do not teach techniques—instead, they provide a dynamic, in-depth look at human anatomy through dissection. Gil’s presentations offer exceptional insights into anatomical variations and structures that enhance a student’s ability to “see” with their hands. The visual and educational quality of the series is outstanding. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to deepen their understanding of the human form. – Judy Russell BA (PE); BSc (PT)
