An important book written at the inception of CST! It includes the research papers from the 1970's that Dr. John and Retzlaff did at Michigan State University, and has before and after photos of some of the case studies. And it has the original photos of the sutures that we show in the CS1 class. Really great to have the original research shown in one place.
The history of medicine is dotted with the episodic appearance of new discoveries, scientific breakthroughs, and the development of new schools of healthcare, and each has contributed to the evolution of the art and science of the practice of healthcare. The founding of osteopathic medicine by Andrew Taylor Still was one such event. The development of the osteopathy in the cranial field concept by William G. Sutherland was another. And the development of the CranioSacral Therapy modality by John E. Upledger was a third. All of these giants of osteopathic medicine encountered the reluctance of their colleagues to accept his contribution. All were able to overcome this reluctance and saw the acceptance of his contribution because of the fundamental anatomical and physiological truth supporting the concept, and the pragmatic fact that their therapeutic applications were successful. These men attracted to them individuals desirous of learning a new evaluative and therapeutic procedure. It is fortunate that work of these individuals has continued to live on in the hands of healthcare professionals around the world.
